Founded by Nathalie Tardif, Tana Kim is the reflection of a deep passion for fashion, creativity, and commitment. Each set is a unique piece or part of a very limited series, thoughtfully designed and crafted with the utmost care to offer an exceptional outfit.
Tana Kim is an ode to creativity, a dialogue between fashion and art, expressed through collections of carefully coordinated skirts and bags, designed to enhance silhouettes with elegance and boldness.
The brand’s name has its roots in a personal story: Kim is a tribute to Nathalie’s grandmother, a bearer of heritage, values, and stories.
It is within this world of precious heritage that the creator draws her inspiration.
At Tana Kim, each creation is an encounter between past and present, between art and fashion.
The collections merge timeless elegance with contemporary boldness.
The garment is elevated to the status of cultural heritage.
Every ensemble is one-of-a-kind, guaranteeing exclusivity and flawless quality.
Craftsmanship and contemporary concerns lie at the core of the process, fostering more responsible fashion.
It promises sharing and the experience of a unique vision of fashion, inspired by art and human experiences.
Each set is designed to inspire other stories, other lives, to in turn inspire and stir practices.
The traces of childhood
At the age of 9, she began learning sewing with a semi-professional ‘Borletti’ machine, received as a birthday gift.
Since a fingernail is less durable than a needle, the challenges of sewing through thick layers began.
From a very young age, Nathalie remembers the hours spent unsuccessfully trying on clothes due to her silhouette or the difficulty of matching complementary pieces.
Later, she knew she would find a solution by creating the perfect outfit for herself. Besides simplifying her daily life, her outfit had to be original and versatile while allowing her freedom of movement
Barcelone
In 2012, during a trip to Barcelona, the idea of a coordinated skirt and bag set took shape.
She draws her inspiration from the cultural heritage of this Catalan city and its artists to design a timeless, practical, and comfortable pattern.
She envisions patterns and textures suited to the style, aiming to shake up classic lines.
Technique and Creation
Her passion grew over the years.
She took part in courses and thematic workshops that allowed her to explore all the stages of creation (pattern making, cutting, assembling, stitching).
This technical mastery would be the key to creating her designs, which would go on to define her style.
An A-line skirt and a matching bag.
Using upholstery fabrics is an obvious choice due to their thickness, materials, and patterns, especially jacquard and brocade.
Her wardrobe includes around a hundred sets made with unusual fabrics, some created in collaboration with a visual artist.
In the morning, assembling outfits with her range of solid basics (tops, tights, shoes) is simple.
Her style is original, elegant, and comfortable, with choices that vary according to her moods, regardless of the season or her schedule.
In 2024, she decided to go beyond her Egotrip 167-40 by turning this individual experience into a collective, stylistic, and artistic one.
In January 2025, she founded the brand Tana Kim.
"Tana" for the first letters of her first and last name.
"Kim" for her grandmother’s name
At the same time, she joined the La Turbine incubator in Cergy-Pontoise.
A community that supports her in the journey of her concept, currently expressed in four collections.
From an early age, sewing became a means of expression.
The machine and I found our language: an A-line skirt and a matching bag. A unique, comfortable, practical set—my signature mono-product, designed with upholstery fabrics. A functional, elegant, original solution.
These outfits, named Egotrip 167-40, meet my almost obsessive requirements:
– A cut tailored to thick fabrics;
– A silhouette designed for my body shape, with no defined waistline ;
– Ease and comfort to stay free in my movements ;
– Simple pairings with plain basics (tops, tights, shoes, etc.)
– The making of an outfit sewn on Sunday and worn the next day;
– To attract glances, whether approving or not, but never indifferent.
Beyond the functional, stylistic, and practical aspects, these ensembles tell my story in a language both visible and unreadable.
This concept is now ready to open up and be shared."
